Courage Foundation Triathlon Press Release 27th June 2018:
Extreme triathlon challenge smashes fundraising target
The Courage Foundation Triathlon team completed a 26.2 mile night marathon through the New Forest, a 7-mile Kayak to the Isle of Wight and then a 100km cycle around the Island – All in under 24 hours – raising close to £20k in the process
The Courage Foundation was set up by Tony and Ruth Palmer (Chandler’s Ford) after the unexpected death of their young son Jethro Courage in 2015. The charity provides support to bereaved children after the death of a brother, sister or parent.
“The hope of our charity is to give children permission to be happy again after the death or a close relative. There are thousands of families in the UK facing these toughest of times and we love to support as may of them as possible” says Ruth.

Tony, the captain of the team, competed the challenge at 7pm on Saturday evening – “The challenge has been huge and we have put our bodies through a lot. I had headaches, muscle and joint pain as well as stomach difficulties along the way due to the extreme exercise, heat and unusual high calorie diet. “
Ruth who lead the teams support and Facebook live campaign said “The team achieved something incredible. I’m so proud of them all for the athleticism they have shown for our cause. The support has been overwhelming and we have raised nearly £20k. Our original goal of £10k seemed impossible when we set out so we are incredibly grateful for everyone’s generosity.”
Courage Foundation Triathlon Press Release 9th June 2018:
Courage, strength and determination needed by local charity fundraisers in order to complete a gruelling 24-hour triathlon...
A 26.2 mile night-marathon through the New Forest will begin at 8pm on 22 June from the Rockingham Arms Pub in West Wellow, Hampshire. That will lead straight into a 7-mile Kayak over to the Isle of Wight, departing from Keyhaven Marina. Then it’s a 100km cycle from Alum Bay around the Isle of Wight finishing up at Cowes Ferry Terminal…
…That’s the challenge being undertaken by The Courage Foundation’s Tony Palmer and his team of triathlon friends.
The Courage Foundation was set up by Tony and Ruth Palmer (from Chandler’s Ford) after the tragically sudden death of their very young son Jethro Courage in 2015.
The foundation provides much-needed support to bereaved children after the death of a brother, sister or parent.
“The hope of our charity is to give children permission to be happy again after the death of a close relative. There are thousands of families in the UK facing the toughest of times and we’d love to support as many of them as possible” said Ruth.
“The foundation aims to do this by giving families a memorable day out where they can remember lost loved ones whilst making new memories” she added.

Tony is taking part in the Courage Foundation Triathlon with five friends in an effort to raise at least £10,000 for the cause. Tony is understandably nervous about the triathlon challenge:
“We’ve all trained hard and we will be pushing our bodies and minds to their upper limits, something I’ve certainly never done before. We hope to inspire people to donate generously to the charity so that we can support many more children and families after the loss of a loved one.”
